Top Voted Answer. There are two ways to completing the Boethiah's Calling quest. My way of completing was before I even talk to Boethiah, I killed off all her followers. Immediately after that, Boethiah herself apepared forth and told me to get a follower to use the shrine. And I did. Killed my own follower and she gave me the last test.To start this quest read the book 'Boethiah's Calling.' It will send you to her shrine. At this point you bind your companion to the pillar and kill them with the sacrificial knife lying on the ground next to the pillar. Boethiah now inhabits your dead companion and the quest starts in earnest. Unknown if the book is in a random location or not.I tried using "setessential 00550F0 0" and "setessential 0009BCAF 0", but then when I click on him and use "isessential" it returns 1, so I don't know why that isn't working.
